About Us
Florist and Flower Farm
Welcome!

I’m so happy you’re here.
I’m Marion Butterworth, owner of Hunt Country Flowers.
I’ve been growing and designing flowers commercially off and on for the past 29 years and for the last 5 years in Warrenton, VA.

Back in the day, I hauled buckets to my various garden spots around Fairfax County VA in our Volvo station wagon. My help was a part-part-time rotating crew of teenagers, a couple of 4th graders and my husband Bill. I sold the flowers I grew at two farmers markets and to a handful of florists. That Volvo eventurally earned the name “Soggy Bottom” because of all the sloshed water.

I don’t do farmers markets any more and I now have reliable, expert help. We live on a farm in Fauquier County next door to our grandkids and my flower garden sits right outside my door. I am literally living my dream. I sell most of my flowers wholesale to wedding and event designers and the Michelin-starred Inn at Little Washington. I also sell lovingly crafted custom arrangements to retail customers like you through this website.

My little farm is a labor of love. My workplace is alive with butterflies and bees, saturated in birdsong and bursting with color.
We grow more than 75 different kinds of flowers on about a ¼ acre and cut tens of thousands of stems each year. It’s hard, physical work. But I get to be my own boss, work outside with friends and enjoy creative challenges daily.

Although not certified, I grow organically, stewarding my plot by nuturing everything from the microorganisms in soil to the snakes that eat the mice to the turkey vultures that eat the snakes. Ours is a symbiotic relationship with nature.

What’s most satisfying about my job is witnessing flowers’ effect on people. No one is ever unhappy when you arrive with flowers. Flowers help folks express their most heartfelt feelings. They say what we can’t. They show up at all of life’s most important moments. Flowers garner such emotional significance because they satisfy our primal need to connect with nature. I am grateful I get to share such beauty with others.
